The Genbukan
All the arts that are learned here at Soyokaze Dojo are under the
Genbukan World Ninpo Bugei Federation under Tanemura Soke [President, Grandmaster].
Ninpo is said to be the true martial art of Japan, from which all other arts - such as Jujutsu and Koryu Karate - derive.
To train in the Genbukan, it is not necessary to have experience in another martial art.
If one does, it adds to their experience, but most new students are new to the martial arts before they start training
with us. What is most important and necessary are good manners, an open mind, and an understanding that this is not sport,
mixed martial arts or competition based. If one is involved with any kind of fighting (this is completely different from defending
oneself, family, or country), they will be required to leave Soyokaze Dojo.
Ninpo
忍法 Ninpo is the origin of all Japanese martial arts and is a complete self defense system containing all aspects;
punches, kicks, reversals, joint-lock manipulations, chokes, kuji-kiri, throws, and various tools (for example; sword,
three and six foot staff, shuriken, plus others – we call them tools because tools are designed to cultivate, where as
weapons are designed to destroy). A ninpo practitioner has the ability to knock down an opponent with one finger.
Jujutsu
柔術 Our traditional Japanese Jujutsu was developed from yoroi kumi-uchi (Samurai armor fighting).
It was developed for one to survive during battle times and helps to create a true heart and a strong mind. Training
in traditional Japanese Jujutsu makes it possible for one to automatically escape.
Koryu Karate
古流唐手 Our art of Koryu Karate (literally - koryu meaning ‘old style’, kara meaning China,
and te meaning ‘hand’) historically comes directly from China, whereas most types of Karate that you see in schools here
in the United states comes from Okinawa. (In Okinawan Karate, the kara means ‘empty’.)
